The family of the Galapagos giant tortoises with its 14 sub-species is the world renowned symbol of the Galapagos Islands. Nowhere else in the world will you come across larger tortoises. The gentle, armoured vegetarians may weigh up to 200 kilos and live to the ripe old age of 180 or more.
The green marine tortoise visits the beaches of the Galapagos Islands to lay its eggs and other marine tortoises also regularly pay a visit.
