Galapagos | Las Plazas

Las Plazas

Plaza Sur (South Plaza) and Plaza Norte (North Plaza) are located off the east coast of Santa Cruz. Only the southern of the two islands is accessible to tourists. The long island spans some 13 hectares and is home to many different plants and animals.

Land iguanas, crabs, marine lizards, sea lions, lizards and swallowtail gulls are just some of the animal species to be found. Cacti shape the landscape. The cliffs at the south-east end of the island are a popular location for sea lions and marine lizards who brave the rough surf.

Plaza Sur is a popular destination from Santa Cruz and is normally on the itinerary of day excursions mostly in conjunction with snorkelling opportunities.

Plaza Norte is only open to accredited scientists.
